Study days, courses and clinical forums

Regular Teaching in the region:

Paediatric Cardiac Nursing  Drop-In Teaching sessions:  via MS Teams. Drop-in sessions run throughout the year. It is an opportunity for nurses within the network in both acute and community settings to learn more about cardiac conditions, discuss their learning needs and meet with colleagues across the region. Please contact the CYP education team for the link. 

Weekly ECG teaching sessions with the EP team at UHS. Via MS Teams. Drop in sessions run every Wednesday from 08:00-8:30. Please email for the link.

2023  Foundation Course Now Full

Regional Paediatric Foundation Cardiac Nursing Programme. Hosted at UHS. Foundation Advert 2023

This six day foundation programme is suitable for nurse and AHP’s caring for children with a cardiac diagnosis in a variety of settings including district general hospital, community nursing teams and nurses with 1-3 years experience in tertiary cardiac centres.

The dates for this year are March 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and April 18th, 25th.

Topics to be included: Basic cardiac anatomy and physiology, common congenital cardiac defects and associated treatments, arrhythmias, MDT involvement, acquired cardiac disease, nursing management of unwell cardiac patients and postoperative complications.  

The programme aim is to consolidate your knowledge and improve your nursing assessment and management of cardiac patients in both primary and tertiary settings. The course will be delivered using a blended approach; face to face (at UHS) and virtual teaching and will include some simulation practice to complement learning. 

The cost of the course is £500.

The Paediatric Cardiac Nursing  Forum is a drop-in session which runs each month throughout the year via MS Teams. It's a great opportunity for nurses within the network to learn more about cardiac conditions, discuss their learning needs and meet with colleagues across the region. Are you interested in learning more about CHD and becoming a champion for children with CHD within your team or trust?

If so please get in touch and we will provide you with support and education to share with your colleagues. Our link nurse forum will run twice a year so that you can meet other nurses in the region who are caring for children with CHD.
