Experience 

Dr Orchard is a Consultant Cardiologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She has subspecialty interests in adult congenital heart disease, paediatric and adolescent cardiology, obstetric cardiology and pulmonary hypertension.

She is the clinical lead for the ACHD service and is the network lead for the Oxford Southampton congenital cardiac network. She undertakes peripheral clinics monthly in Reading, Northampton and Jersey. Her research interests are mainly in mobile health technologies to improve patient care.

Training and Experience

Dr Joanna Lim graduated from the University of Oxford in 2006. She completed general cardiology training in Oxford and then undertook higher specialist training in congenital heart disease in London from 2014-2019, completing fellowships at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, the Royal Brompton, St Thomas’ Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Dr Lim was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2019. She holds two adult congenital heart disease clinics in Oxford each week and also runs monthly clinics in Swindon and Milton Keynes.

She has a keen interest in congenital transthoracic echocardiography and has a weekly echo list for scanning patients with particularly complex hearts.

Dr Jim Newton qualified from the University of Leicester in 1998 then after a period of research undertook postgraduate training in Oxford. He was appointed as a consultant cardiologist with a specialist interest in echocardiography and valvular heart disease in 2011. Dr Jim Newton has been involved in the assessment of patients before, during and after TAVI procedures from the first case performed in Oxford in 2008, with expertise in all aspects of procedural imaging. Dr Jim Newton is a past council member of the British Society of Echocardiography with activity in training and education, and is the training program director for cardiology in the Thames Valley. His hobbies include motorsport – watching and participating – and digital photography.

Experience

David Sprigings trained in general medicine and cardiology in Oxford and London, and was then a consultant cardiologist at Northampton General Hospital from 1993 to 2016.  He started an ACHD clinic at Northampton in 2001, latterly shared with colleagues from Oxford.  He has been a locum consultant at the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford since 2017, working in general cardiology and with Dr Liz Orchard and Dr Jo Lim in Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

Dr Sam Dawkins is a Structural and Interventional Cardiologist in Oxford. He trained in cardiology in Oxford before completing fellowships in Advanced Structural Intervention and Critical Care Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He leads the structural intervention programme in Oxford, and his clinical interests include aortic, mitral and tricuspid intervention, left atrial appendage occlusion and ASD/PFO closure. He trains other operators around the world in mitral, tricuspid and left atrial appendage occlusion procedures.
