Financial support and benefits

Families on a low income or in receipt of benefits might be entitled to apply to the Family Fund for a grant. Visit the Family Fund website to check eligibility to apply and, if so, complete the online form.

When a child has been in hospital for more than a week, families who are experiencing financial difficulties can speak to the nurse specialists who will help and advise on completing the application.

If you are in receipt of universal credit, or tax credits, you may be entitled to help with the cost of one adult travelling with a child to hospital appointments.

If you are not in receipt of the above benefits but are worried about the cost of travelling to hospital, please speak to the children’s cardiac nurse specialist team on 02381 20 4659 who can signpost you to other organisations who may be able to offer advice and support. Please call or visit the cashiers team who can offer you advice on this.

The cashiers office is on C level at Southampton General Hospital and the telephone number is 023 8120 6058/6059.

Opening hours are:

Monday to Wednesday – 8am to 4pm

Thursday – 8:30am to 4pm

Friday – 8am to 4pm
