If your antenatal team suspect that there is a problem with your baby’s heart they will refer you for a specialist heart scan.

About the fetal cardiology service
Our network fetal service offers appointments five days a week jointly with our feto-maternal obstetricians and we aim to see all fetal cardiac referrals within three calendar days.
- All fetal cardiac clinics are attended by a fetal cardiologist, feto-maternal obstetrician, feto-maternal midwife and children’s cardiac nurse specialist (CCNS)
- All babies diagnosed fetally with a cardiac problem have an agreed delivery plan shared among the multidisciplinary team
- All duct-dependent conditions are delivered at Oxford or Southampton, except where comfort care/palliative care is chosen and the family request a delivery closer to home
- All fetal patients with transposition of the great arteries are delivered at Southampton due to the potential need for balloon septostomy.
